In business for over 20 years, Black Walk is a vibrant film and television production company. With affiliations internationally, its projects have won critical and commercial successes in various markets and festivals. Mihkel Harilaid, Executive Producer and President, oversees the development and administration of the company with key persons who have been with Black Walk for years. Craig Fleming - VP of Production, works closely on all projects from the creative to delivery. Jennifer Masales - VP of Operations, handles all the administration and accounts for the company.
Black Walk made its mark on the industry in the 1990’s, producing over 500 music videos including hits from numerous North American Gold and Platinum recording artists such as Shaggy, Creed, Nickelback, and Alanis Morrisette. After a decade of leading the industry, CEO Mihkel Harilaid decided to change directions and ventured into independent film production. Today, the company has produced over twelve features as well as numerous TV projects and is thriving under the creative direction of Mihkel.
Black Walk’s film credits include the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival Favorite and Independent Spirit Award Winner Phil the Alien, the 2004 feature film Ham & Cheese starring Dave Foley, Jason Jones and Samantha Bee, and the 2007 sexy sci-fi-comedy Dark Rising - which was nominated in 2008 for 6 Canadian Comedy Awards.
2011 brought out three new releases including their largest in-house production to date Medium Raw: Night of the Wolf, an action-thriller starring John-Rhys Davies (Lord of the Rings), William B. Davis (X-Files), and Mercedes McNab (Buffy / Angel). Medium Raw is released through Anchor Bay/Starz. In addition Dark Rising: Summer Strikes Back and Dark Rising: Savage Tales were taken to market by Cinemavault.
At the end of 2011, Black Walk produced the film “Two Hands To Mouth “. Directed by Michael DeCarlo, with the assistance of Telefilm Canada, the project is distributed by Decade Distribution and available internationally. It is next to be seen at the Madrid international Film Festival in July 2013.
2012 brought a larger scale production of the Dark Rising Mini-Series – “Warrior of Worlds”, shot in Sudbury ON and Paris Fr. Developed for Television by Mihkel, Director Andrew Cymek helped create a new and exciting take on the now multi-faceted world. This project is available World-Wide by Mar Vista Entertainment.
2013 continues to expand the production parameters of the company. Black Walk is involved in all aspects of production, including financing and distribution. The company is currently accepting scripts and proposals for feature and television projects.
